Next Direction : Management Profile

Every project is directed by our MD, John Holt.

After graduate internship in the Architect's Department he became purchasing manager at Southampton University and helped to found the Southern Universities Purchasing Consortium.

For 12 years he was chief specifier for YRM Interiors/YRM Architects, one of the largest practices in the UK providing design advice and FF+E management for the widest range of clients including international corporates such as J P Morgan and Arthur Andersen, residential, hospitality, academic and hospital projects in the Middle East, most of the development phase of Gatwick Airport, and hotel and leisure projects for Hilton, Sheraton and quality independents.

He has written for design, architecture, business and consumer magazines, and lectured on design and furnishing at Middlesex University.

In 1996, John managed the FF+E procurement on a major 750000 sq ft relocation for Barclays Capital, the fast-growing investment bank. In the last ten years we have worked on Barclays projects all over the world.

The dynamic Russian investment house Renaissance Capital www.rencap.com engaged us to manage the furniture procurement on its Moscow headquarters and regional offices in New York, Nairobi, Lagos, Kiev, Almaty, Nicosia, London and Dubai.

Our hospitality clients include Monogram Hotels for whom we are developing and implementing an entirely new resort-boutique concept for its properties in the Mediterranean.

Next Direction : International

Our appreciation and understanding of the differences in international specifications and standards has been invaluable to our global clients.

We are particularly proud of having worked with leading American design firms to interpret their and their clients' requirements for projects in Europe, and of having invented and executed global design standards for Barclays at its locations worldwide, enabling consistently recognisable and qualitative furnished interiors in locations as diverse as New Jersey and Indonesia.

In 2007 we were approached by the leading Russian financial services firm Renaissance Capital to work on its Moscow headquarters, and nine other projects around the globe stretching our experience from Nigeria to Kazakhstan.

Next Direction : Detail

We do not believe the procurement process ends when the order is placed, and we offer monitoring, due diligence, quality control and snagging at every stage up to placement of the furniture and commissioning of equipment in its final position.

Next Direction : Negotiation

Combining the purchasing power of our clients with our own track record and reputation results in a strong negotiating arm which has never yet delivered a project over budget.

For long-standing client relationships we regularly re-assess their continuing suppliers and deliver fresh savings or improved performance at every review.

Most design professionals have aesthetic ideals, facilities managers look at the bottom line, hospitality businesses compare cost with revenue - we see the whole picture and validate the client's real objectives.

We then drive the best solution at optimum cost. Every client has recognized that the value of our contribution exceeds our fee.

Next Direction : Supervision

Our ability to work on-site or in-plant with manufacturers to develop solutions for individual clients is based on a thorough understanding of the manufacturing processes, and a totally practical creativity. This has been applied not just to furniture, but to textiles, flooring, light fittings, ceramics, joinery and millwork.

We have worked with European factories on American and Asian projects, we have shown Chinese metal workers how to attain European industrial standards, we have argued the case with New York Union electricians to accept inventive solutions and cost efficiencies, we arranged product licensing so that a South African vendor could supply high quality furniture in the US to meet a tight client budget and we have patiently developed specifications for Indonesian vendors to compete on projects in Europe.

Next Direction : Sourcing

Our knowledge of the UK, American, European and world markets in furniture is encyclopaedic, and regularly refreshed by attendance at important trade fairs and conferences.

Our greatest skills are in the sourcing of corporate, office, hospitality, hotel, restaurant and leisure furniture and interior finishes products - but we respond to all client challenges to find the unusual or unique. Intelligent cost management informs all our sourcing proposals.

Next Direction : Pre-Planning

Effective briefing with clients, end-users, facility and hospitality professionals ensures that the essential requirement is most clearly communicated to suppliers and contractors, and guidance given during all design development stages.

Our ability to work with architects and designers to enhance their skills and our diligent understanding of the client's requirements reduces abortive work for the design team and produces below-the-line savings.
